ParticipantUsing a travel advisor for VV is almost always the smart move. A good travel advisor (like Pixie Vacations) costs you nothing extra — they’re paid commission by VV, not by you. But they can often get you extras like onboard credit, group rates, or stacked promotions that aren’t available when booking direct. Plus you get a real human to call if something goes wrong.

ParticipantMy wife is vegan and she’s had the best dining experiences of any cruise line on VV. The chefs are genuinely enthusiastic about plant-based cooking. If you let your server know about dietary needs at any restaurant, they’ll often create custom dishes. The kitchen takes allergies and preferences seriously.

ParticipantDeck 10 or 11, mid-ship is the consensus best spot. Minimal motion, close to elevators, and away from any venue noise above or below. Deck 10 mid-ship is sometimes called the ‘sweet spot’ because it’s perfectly centered on the ship. You’ll feel the least motion there during rough seas.

ParticipantHey everyone! I’m from Florida, which makes Miami departures super convenient. I’ve sailed VV 5 times now — twice on Scarlet Lady, twice on Valiant Lady, and once on Resilient Lady. Currently planning a Brilliant Lady sailing for next year. This has quickly become my favorite cruise line!

ParticipantDon’t try to do too much — Key West is best enjoyed slowly. Pick 2-3 things and just wander. The Hemingway House and a walk down Duval Street with a stop at Sloppy Joe’s is a classic combo. Save time for a frozen drink at one of the waterfront bars.

ParticipantSip on Deck 16 (the champagne bar) has the best views and atmosphere for a sunset cocktail. It’s intimate, elegant, and the champagne cocktails are incredible. For a more casual vibe, the pool deck bar during sea days with the DJ playing is hard to beat.

ParticipantIt books up insanely fast — sometimes within minutes of reservation windows opening. My tips: 1) Set an alarm for exactly when reservations open (45 days before sailing). 2) Have the app open and ready to go. 3) If you can’t get it at 45 days, keep checking — cancellations pop up regularly, especially a few days before sailing and even onboard.

ParticipantAlso check with a travel advisor — agencies like Pixie Vacations sometimes have exclusive group rates or bonus onboard credit that you can stack on top of VV promotions. It doesn’t cost extra to use a travel advisor and you often get a better deal than booking direct.

ParticipantSailor Loot is VV’s loyalty program. You earn points for every voyage and spending onboard. The tiers unlock perks like early booking access, onboard credits, priority embarkation, and exclusive events. The exact tiers and benefits get updated periodically, so check the VV website for the latest. The real value kicks in after your 2nd or 3rd voyage when you start getting meaningful onboard credits and priority perks.

ParticipantOne word of caution about doing excursions independently in Puerto Plata: make sure you give yourself plenty of buffer time to get back to port. Traffic can be unpredictable. I always book through VV for ports where the excursion takes you far from the ship.

ParticipantI’ve done both Sea Terrace and RockStar. If you add up the perks individually (Bar Tab, Thermal Suite, better cabin location), the price gap shrinks significantly. For a special occasion I’d say go for it. For a regular vacation, Sea Terrace is the sweet spot and you won’t feel like you’re missing out on the core VV experience.

ParticipantYES, go all out with the outfit! The more red you wear the better. It’s one of those things that gets more fun the more you commit to it. The event starts with a special dinner vibe and builds throughout the evening. There are performers roaming the ship, special themed cocktails, and the big moment usually happens on the pool deck with fire performers, aerial acts, and an epic DJ set. It’s genuinely one of the best nights at sea on any cruise line.

ParticipantOne thing to consider: aft cabins can be noisier because of the engines and The Wake restaurant above. Mid-ship Deck 10-11 is the sweet spot for most people — close to elevators, less noise, minimal motion. But if views are your priority, aft is magical.

ParticipantCongrats! You’re going to love it. The biggest tip I can give is to book your dining reservations the second they open (45 days before sailing). The Wake and Test Kitchen fill up first. Also, download the app ASAP and complete your check-in early. Welcome aboard, sailor!
