Our Dominican Daze itinerary stops in Puerto Plata. What excursions have people done? Thinking about the 27 Waterfalls but also wondering about the cable car and beach options. Is it better to book through VV or independently?

The 27 Waterfalls of Damajagua is a MUST. It’s one of the best excursion experiences I’ve ever had in any port. You hike up through the jungle and then slide/jump down natural waterfall pools. It’s adventurous and absolutely beautiful. Book through VV for peace of mind — if the excursion runs late, the ship waits for official excursions.

We did the cable car up Mount Isabel de Torres — great views and there’s a botanical garden at the top. It’s a more relaxed option if the waterfalls feel too intense. The town itself is also walkable and has some fun shopping and local restaurants near the port.

One word of caution about doing excursions independently in Puerto Plata: make sure you give yourself plenty of buffer time to get back to port. Traffic can be unpredictable. I always book through VV for ports where the excursion takes you far from the ship.
