The RockStar experience is the premium tier on Virgin Voyages and it is the closest thing to a luxury cruise within a contemporary cruise line. I have stayed in RockStar suites and standard cabins across multiple ships, so I can give you an honest breakdown of whether the upgrade is worth the significant price jump.

What You Get as a RockStar

The RockStar experience is not just a bigger cabin. It is a completely different onboard experience with exclusive perks that standard cabin guests do not have access to.

Richard’s Rooftop (Deck 17): This is the crown jewel. A private sundeck exclusively for RockStar guests with its own pool, hot tub, bar, and loungers. On a ship with 2,700 passengers, having a private outdoor space is a genuine luxury. On busy sea days when the main pool deck is packed, Richard’s Rooftop is an oasis. The hot tub at sunset with a cocktail in hand is one of the best moments I have had on any cruise ship.

RockStar Agent: Your personal concierge who handles restaurant reservations, Shore Thing bookings, spa appointments, and any special requests. Think of them as a dedicated travel agent who lives on the ship. They will also arrange surprise amenities in your suite if you are celebrating something.

Upgraded Cabin: RockStar suites range from the Seriously Suite (the entry-level suite with a living area and premium bathroom) to the Massive Suite (a full apartment with a separate living room, guitar room, outdoor terrace with hot tub, and record player). Every RockStar cabin has premium bedding, Grown Alchemist toiletries, a premium mini-bar, and a peek-a-boo shower between the bathroom and bedroom.

Priority everything: Priority boarding on embarkation day, priority tendering at ports, and the ability to book restaurants and Shore Things before standard guests.

Thermal Suite access: Free access to the Redemption Spa thermal suite, which normally costs $50-60 per day. The thermal suite has a hydrotherapy pool, mud room, salt room, cold plunge, and heated loungers. Over a 5-night cruise, this alone is a $250-300 value per person.

RockStar Suite Categories

Seriously Suite

The entry-level RockStar suite. You get a separate living area, premium bathroom, and all the RockStar perks listed above. This is where most people start and it is a massive step up from a Sea Terrace cabin. Starting around $3,000 per person for a 4-night sailing.

Sweet Suite

Slightly larger than the Seriously Suite with enhanced design touches. The layout is similar but with more space and a bigger balcony. A good choice if you want extra room without jumping to the top-tier pricing.

Brilliant Suite

A significantly larger suite with a living room, dining area, walk-in closet, and an oversized balcony. This is the sweet spot for couples who want genuine luxury without the astronomical price of the Massive Suite.

Massive Suite

The flagship cabin. A true apartment at sea with a full living room, separate bedroom, guitar room with electric guitar and amp, a record player with vinyl collection, an outdoor terrace with a private hot tub, and a peek-a-boo shower. This is the most Instagram-worthy cabin on any cruise ship and it is an experience unto itself. Starting around $8,000-12,000 per person for a 4-night sailing.

Is It Worth the Money?

Here is my honest assessment after experiencing both sides:

Yes, if: You are celebrating a milestone (honeymoon, anniversary, birthday), you value private outdoor space, you would use the spa thermal suite daily anyway, or you simply want the best possible cruise experience. The combination of Richard’s Rooftop, the RockStar Agent, thermal suite access, and priority perks creates a noticeably different vacation.

No, if: You are mainly excited about the dining and entertainment (which are identical for all guests), you spend most of your time off the ship at ports, or the price difference would stretch your budget uncomfortably. A Sea Terrace cabin on Deck 8 gives you an incredible VV experience at a fraction of the cost.

My advice: Try a standard Sea Terrace for your first VV cruise. If you fall in love with the brand (and most people do), upgrade to RockStar for your second sailing. You will appreciate the RockStar perks more when you have a baseline comparison.
